Silent winetasting

Taste exquisite wines compiled by our sommelier. Let the aromas of the samples take you into the world of viticulture and read interesting details about the corresponding wine.

We would like to show you the basic steps of a tasting in advance.

To fully taste a wine, it is analyzed in four steps.

Texture | Swirl your wine glass in a steady motion. This dynamic allows you to observe the density of the liquid. Basically, the more and thicker the wine runs down the wall of the glass, the richer it is. A connoisseur speaks of tears instead of drops.

Color I Hold the filled wine glass in front of a white background to observe the color. For white wine, the darker the color, the older the wine. For red wine, however, the lighter a red wine appears, the older it is, as the color pigments settle to the bottom as it ages. Similar statements give an indication of the intensity. Very dark wines usually come from very hot growing regions.Textur | Schwenken Sie Ihr Weinglas in gleichmäßiger Bewegung.

Optics

Hold your nose deep into the glass. Repeat this process several times until you can recognize all the nuances. In general, a distinction is made between seven aroma families: floral, herbal, fruity, spicy, caramelized, smoky and microbiological. When naming the actual fragrances, familiar scents are used. These can also be easily categorized into the seven families.

Odor

When drinking the wine, make sure you take in the air at the same time - this is called “sipping the wine” in vinophile language - then keep the wine in your mouth. In order to taste the variety of flavors, it is advisable to “chew” the wine repeatedly with your tongue. First, the sweetness and acidity impression is evaluated before the flavors unfold over time. These are again assigned to the seven families of aromas.

Taste

Make a note of your impression.

It always makes sense to take notes during a tasting. This is the only way to make a final assessment of the overall impression of the wine. Does the taste deliver what the smell promises? Were your assumptions about age and intensity based on the color correct?

Overall impression

Try. Taste. Learn.

Sit back and enjoy your wine tasting. Try out the techniques described and test yourself. Get to know the variety of aromas better with every glass of wine.

We are happy to support you in your analysis with an “aroma wheel” for white and red wines, on which you will find the aroma families mentioned above.
