Durbach |  ONE VALLEY, MANY FACES

The fascination of terroir. This is about more than just the soil; the winegrower and the microclimate also play a major role. Experience how big the differences can be in a small valley. You will now taste three wines of the same grape variety from the Durbach Valley. However, they differ in the different soils on which they were grown and the signature of the winemaker and cellar master, who made them with passion and diligence into what you now have in your glass. The 2021 vintage was generally on the cooler side, with a cool summer and a cool ripening phase for the grapes. As a result, the wines are very rich in finesse, super mineral with moderate alcohol and beautifully structured acidity.

2021 Durbacher Steinberg Riesling | quality wine b.A. | WG Durbach

Durbacher Steinberg | steep, barren and unique

The Durbacher Steinberg towers majestically above our house. The perfect south-facing orientation, the Moselle-like slope and the granite weathered subsoil produce fantastic wines. Wines from the Durbacher Steinberg vineyard are particularly expressive and have their very own, unmistakable character. Very berry, spicy and intensely mineral wines are the result of a special microclimate.

  • Clear and brilliant in colour with delicate golden reflections
  • The delicately fruity aroma of peach and grapefruit is already impressive on the nose
  • A unique Riesling with a very intense, long finish and beautiful minerality

2022 Riesling Alte Reben | *** | quality wine b.A. | Winery Alexander Laible

The Alexander Laible winery classifies its wines in three levels, which are indicated by stars. Now taste a three-star wine. These wines form our top segment. They are wines of intense minerality and radiance. Wines from the best vineyards. We keep yields below 50 hectoliters per hectare. They are among the top national and international qualities. That is the claim of winegrower Alexander Laible. In this case, it is also a wine from old vines - mostly older than 40 years. They stand for high quality and denser aromas. This Riesling was grown on Kalk-Merkel soils and was harvested at 91° Oexle. Due to the ageing on the lees, the Riesling has a wonderful body with very well integrated, subtle acidity. - This is exceptional for a grape variety that is usually high in acidity.

  • Strong, bright yellow with sunny reflections. Due to the concentration of old vines, you can recognise a medium viscosity at the edge of the glass.
  • The nose reveals a hint of citrus, vineyard peach and sweet pineapple.
  • On the palate, the wine is juicy with wonderful facets of fruit and minerality. With its long-lasting aromas, the wine can be savoured long after tasting.

2021 Riesling 400 | dry I farmyard Wörner

The Riesling 400 is a unique wine that comes from the highest parcels at the top of the majestic Durbach Kochberg. The vines grow here at an altitude of up to 400 metres above sea level and enjoy a west-facing exposure. The soil, characterised by granite and gneiss, gives this wine its unique minerality and freshness.
Thanks to the altitude, the cool exposure and the direct influence of the surrounding forest, the Riesling 400 develops a taut and cool character that delights lovers of dry wines. The Hofgut Wörner winery attaches great importance to manual labour and traditional production methods. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand and pressed as whole bunches, without the addition of additives such as yeasts, enzymes or fining agents.
Spontaneous fermentation takes place both in oak barrels and in stainless steel in order to bring out the full flavour of the Riesling. After a careful maturation period of 10 months on the lees, the wine is bottled without filtration and only minimally treated with sulphur. The result is a wine full of character that reflects the uniqueness and originality of the Hofgut Wörner vineyards in the glass. Immerse yourself in the world of Riesling 400 and experience the pure fascination of this extraordinary wine region.

  • The wines are bottled without fining and without filtrate ion. A slight fine yeast turbidity is therefore a natural appearance. Soft straw yellow colour with light green reflections.
  • Slightly reductive start, subtly yeasty, citrus and cut apple with a hint of oxidation characterise the aroma.
  • Powerful, structured, minerally and gripping, with a slight phenolic note and grip on the palate, very lively and persistent salinity.
